BiiSafe raised €835,000 via crowdfunding organised by Kansalaisrahoitus and €250,000 from Tekes's Young Innovative Companies (YIC) programme. The funding will support the company’s internationalisation strategy and launch on the European and US markets.
Setting-up a global business by exporting its main product BiiSafe Buddy to international markets is BiiSafe’s goal for the coming years. Both the Kansalaisrahoitus crowd-funding and the Tekes YIC funding will support BiiSafe’s short and long term internationalisation plans and strategy. “Already more than 90% of our product orders come from abroad via our online store and international distributors. We have seen high demand from countries like Germany, Switzerland and the UK. While our main international focus is at the moment Europe, we hope to also actively enter the US market in the near future. Receiving the funding gives us the opportunity to move faster towards our goal to become a top global provider of smartphone accessories and solutions in the safety technology sector”, said Tuomo Pentikäinen, CEO of BiiSafe.
Kansalaisrahoitus, a Finnish crowdfunding pioneer, has organised a successful funding round and raised altogether €835,000 of new capital for BiiSafe.
“We found BiiSafe to be a highly promising business that offers an innovative and unique product to both consumer and corporate markets. We are very selective of which companies we collaborate with, as we get hundreds of applications and want to operate only with the most promising ones. The successful investment round stands for our and our crowdfunding network’s belief in BiiSafe’s competitive edge and ability to become one of the top international players in its market”, said Toni Lahti, CEO of Kansalaisrahoitus Oy.
Tekes Young Innovative Companies (YIC) is a funding programme meant for innovative and promising start-ups in Finland that show high potential for growing and expanding on global markets. Entering the YIC programme is highly competitive as the companies need to demonstrate a clear competitive edge and novelty of their products and/or services. In addition, companies must have existing promising business and customer references, a strong and competent management team, as well as the ability to attract venture capital. The YIC funding of 250,000 Euro will enable BiiSafe to strengthen and expand its international presence, and provide support in different countries and languages.
Olli Arojärvi, Finance Manager, Tekes said “We are happy to see high-potential young companies like BiiSafe joining the program in our aim to support the export of Finnish innovative quality products and services to the global market. This is also a great example of how crowdfunding and Tekes can complement each other.”
BiiSafe has amongst its current partners the security software company F-Secure and mobile network provider and retailer Sonera. Both partners aim to take BiiSafe’s product, Buddy, past the Finnish market and into the international marketplace, providing the company with additional platforms for catering to the global community.
BiiSafe is dedicated to improving people's lives by developing reliable and high-quality smartphone accessories and apps for everyday use. The company was founded in 2012 in Finland and continues a strong local tradition of combining cutting-edge designed hardware with innovative software (winner of the Red Dot Design Award in 2014).
BiiSafe's mobile solutions and related accessories are designed for both consumer and corporate use. BiiSafe Buddy is a premium smartphone accessory paired with a free mobile iPhone and Android app for everyday connectivity and safety. BiiSafe Buddy is the only product on the market to combine location sharing, alert / distress functionalities and lost item finding capabilities.
